Dinosaur bedtime ideas for little adventurers
When a child is still roaring with energy, bedtime can feel like the least exciting part of the day. A familiar routine can make the change of pace gentler without taking away the fun.
Turn the last roar into a routine
Try using the same small sequence each evening: tidy the dinosaur toys, choose one story, have a final drink and settle under the covers. Predictability helps children understand what comes next, even when the day itself has been busy.
A routine does not need to be long or perfect. The useful part is that it feels familiar.
Give tomorrow a tiny adventure
Some children resist sleep because they do not want today’s fun to finish. Before switching off the light, choose one simple thing to look forward to tomorrow. It might be building a block volcano, drawing a Stegosaurus or choosing breakfast.
This is the idea at the heart of Dinosaur Bedtime: bedtime is not only the end of today. It is also the beginning of whatever comes next.
Try three quiet dinosaur questions
- Which dinosaur would be the best at getting cosy?
- Where would a dinosaur keep its favourite pyjamas?
- What adventure might Anky dream about tonight?
Let your child answer in one or two sentences. The aim is a warm conversation, not an energetic new game.
Make story time easy to repeat
Young children often ask for the same story because knowing what happens feels reassuring. Repetition also helps them notice new words, remember patterns and join in with favourite lines.
